We can have lunch earlier, choose from menus, and several vegetarian and vegan dishes in the Umami Restaurant and Café, which operates in the new theoretical building of the Medical School. Most of the innovations have been linked to the beginning of the spring semester, and the restaurant operator plans to expand the repertoire further.

Umami opened at the end of August last year in the new, ultramodern theoretical building about to be handed over. The occupancy of the canteen on the south ground floor is high, the restaurant area, which can accommodate about 100 people, is usually packed at lunchtime, and many guests also frequent the café.

- Based on the experience of recent months and the inputs of the related public opinion survey conducted in November 2021, there were several developments and changes in the restaurant by the beginning of 2022, the introduction of which was linked to the beginning of the spring semester," said Katalin Nagy, Umami's restaurant operator.

As she said, the first important change concerns the opening hours of the lunch counter, which will open at 11 a.m. from February 7th. They opted for the earlier opening so that students and staff, who may not have lunch at noon because their classes are starting, can have lunch and the extra time will help better distribute the crowd at the canteen every day.

Daily menus were also developed based on the feedback. Currently, you can choose from a traditional and a vegetarian combination, which is also more affordable than buying the dishes separately. The menu will be expanded with more vegetarian and vegan dishes, and a new drink vending machine will facilitate buying cheaper drinks. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. from February 7th, we can combine a Mediterranean mezze bowl at the lunch counter, which can be enjoyed as a late, healthy lunch, snack or even takeaway dinner.

The innovations also affect the Umami café; according to Katalin Nagy, there will be various promotions every month. In addition to the current bakery products and sandwich offer, from February 7th, we can also request a hot breakfast from 7:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. From mid-February, the handmade bread products of Kovászálom are planned to be available here as well.
