Being a demonstrator helps medical students to evolve professionally

April 1, 2025

It was the second time that the Department of Anatomy of the Medical School organised a workshop on 24 March for anatomists and demonstrators, which was attended by 28 Hungarian, English and German programme students who are also part of the Circle of Demonstrators. The event had four parts: a lecture, a workshop, an exhibition opening and an informal closing discussion. According to the organisers, many positive experiences were gained this year as well.

The lecture section was opened by Professor Dr. Dóra Reglődi, Director of the Department of Anatomy of the University of Pécs Medical School who gave a welcome speech, then Dr. Andrea Tamás, President of the Circle of Demonstrators, reported on the latest statistics in connection with the Circle of Demonstrators, scholarship opportunities, and the application process related to it. This part was followed by a game to break the ice coordinated by Dr. Zsombor Márton and Dr. Inez Bosnyák, assistant lecturers. The aim was to recognise the iconic locations of the Department of Anatomy, and then Lili Lucas, one of the students of Circle of Demonstrators engaged in the Department, presented the opportunities to practice demonstrator work and its role in professional development. The section ended with a presentation: Dr. Dániel Kardos, a former demonstrator and a lecturer at the Department of Anatomy, also a surgeon at the University of Pécs Clinical Centre Department of Paediatrics, illustrated with clinical and anatomical examples how his work as a demonstrator affected his life.

“New generations, new challenges in education” - this was the topic of the workshop this year. The participants worked in small groups and then presented their ideas. They provided each other and the lecturers with useful pieces of advice and ideas. The lecture and the workshop was also moderated by Dr. Jason Sparks, assistant lecturer.

Students also visited the exhibition "Linen Scroll, Time after Time" created by painter Karina Horgas. The 25-meter-long and a more than 2-meter-wide painting was made from the preparations of the Department of Anatomy presenting the passing time. Bence János Samodai, trumpeter, played Gilson Santos' trumpet solo "Vajú", Professor Dr. Dóra Reglődi gave a welcome speech, Márk Horváth, philosopher, opened the exhibition, and Dr. Zsombor Márton moderated the event.

The informal closing discussion helped the instructors and the members of the Circle of Demonstrators to get closer to each other, and the students to get to know each other better. Feedback shows that the participants had a great time and is looking forward to the next event.

The colleagues of the Department of Anatomy would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organisation of the event!
