The University of Pécs Medical School claimed third place at the 52nd Medical Cup, which took place in Szeged between 11-13 April. The teams competed in five sports - handball, basketball, football, water polo and volleyball - in both men's and women's categories. The atmosphere was terrific and the event provided a genuine community-building experience for the students.

The Medical Cup has been organized annually since 1972, attracting nearly 400 athletes vying for the trophy.  The event garners support from thousands of fans each year The host university rotates among four Hungarian medical universities- Semmelweis University, University of Debrecen, University of Szeged and University of Pécs. Last year, POTE team returned victorious from Debrecen, and this time, they finished in third place in Szeged.

This year, POTE was the most outstanding in handball, securing first place in the men's category. We did well in football too, earning second place in both the men's and women's categories, and our women's basketball team finished the tournament in second place.

The first day of the Medical Cup kicked off with an opening party in several clubs throughout Szeged, welcoming the medics. The second day began early, the teams played round-robin matches against each other. The matches continued until late afternoon, and after a short rest, the parties started and lasted until dawn. The third day was dedicated to the finals, held in a great atmosphere. The POTE fans in their bull-headed T-shirts cheered the teams with incredible vehemence, chanting "Everyone wants to be from Pécs", "Pécs is here", "POTE ollé!".

"Wherever POTE has appeared, the atmosphere has always been excellent. We have a tight-knit community, like no other! I would especially highlight the insane, 1,5 hour long party before the closing event in front of the Pick Arena. We had a fantastic time. By the end of the third day, many students from the three rival universities were cheering in POTE shirts, which I consider it an exceptional result. We are extremely proud of all our teams. We have built wonderful communities and excellent teams. They will definitely win next year," said Balázs Takáts, a fourth-year medical student and President of the Student Council, the lead supporter of the team of the UPMS.

"The atmosphere was fantastic all three days, I think we were the loudest fans. I was part of a great community, it was very powerful and I hope our athletes felt that too. This is the fourth Medical Cup I have participated in, I just love the vibe. I will definitely come to the Cup next year which will be held in Pécs" - said a fan.

On the afternoon of the final day, the results were announced. Following the award ceremony, cheerleaders took the stage and surprised the audience with a choreography they had learned that very day.
