Our researcher from the Sports Medicine Center established an international professional relationship during her Mongolian trip

October 31, 2025

Erdene Temulin Szonja, assistant professor at the UP Medical School Sports Medicine Center, may also pave the way for joint research and educational cooperation with her trip to Mongolia in September, during which she presented her PhD research topic at the country’s sports medicine and research center.

Szonja travelled to the Central Asian country in the frame of the Pannónia Scholarship program, with a focus on research. During her mobility, she contacted the Sports Medicine and Research Center of Mongolia, which provides medical care to athletes in addition to conducting research.

During the trip, the sports psychologist working at the Sports Medicine Center had the opportunity to engage in professional discussions, participate in group sessions, observe training sessions, and meet with the head of the Mongolian Sports Psychology Association.

She presented her PhD research topic, which focuses on examining the potential of animal-assisted therapy among athletes. As she said, the anxiety- and stress-reducing effects of therapy dogs are well known, but their use is not common in sports, even though they could be integrated into this field as well.

“The profile of the Mongolian sports health institute is very similar to that of our center: they focus on similar areas, and they also participate in education, in addition to their research and diagnostic activities. Due to these similarities, we believe we may have several opportunities for cooperation with the institute. The center in Ulaanbaatar agreed with this initiative and indicated its openness to future cooperation in both education and research,” she added.
