Graduating biotechnology and pharmacys students honoured at Graduation Ceremony

July 6, 2026

On 4 July, the graduation ceremony for the University of Pécs' biotechnology and pharmacy students was held in the Dr. György Romhányi Aula of the Medical School.

The ceremony for graduates of the Bachelor's Programme in Biotechnology (BSc) and the graduating pharmacy students began at 1:00 p.m. The graduates were welcomed by Dr. Zsuzsanna Helyes, Vice-Rector of the University of Pécs.

"Today is a day of celebration. We celebrate knowledge, perseverance, countless successful examinations, laboratory practice, professional challenges, and the journey that has brought you to this important milestone," said Dr. Helyes in her address. She emphasized that science and innovation are evolving at an unprecedented pace, yet one principle remains constant: knowledge is truly valuable only when it serves the benefit of others.

This year marked the second occasion on which diplomas were awarded to graduates of the English-language Bachelor's Programme in Biotechnology (BSc), who earned internationally recognized degrees.

On behalf of the biotechnology graduates, Jessica Moheeb Jamal Hanhan delivered a speech of gratitude.

This year, 42 pharmacy students at the Faculty of Pharmacy successfully fulfilled the requirements of the final examination. Following the conferral of their degrees, Dr. Lilien Mónika Mariczki and Dr. Saghi Ghasemi Tabatabaei expressed their appreciation on behalf of the newly graduated pharmacists.

Among this year's graduates, the Outstanding Student Research Award was presented to Dr. Ferenc Rómeó Fritz and Levente Láng in recognition of their exceptional achievements in scientific research.

In recognition of her outstanding academic performance and dedicated contribution to the university community, Dr. Petra Schenk received the Miklós Dékány Foundation Award.

For their excellent academic achievements, the Foundation for Pharmacy Education at the University of Pécs presented awards to Dr. Tamás Sinkovics, Dr. Jeff Muchiri Waweru, and Hoang Khanh Phuong Dang.

Training sites that have made an outstanding contribution to the professional practical education of pharmacy students were honoured with the "Outstanding Practical Training Site of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pécs" award. Based on student feedback and evaluations by course coordinators, this recognition was presented to the SIPO Pharmacy (Uránváros Branch), the Institutional Pharmacy of the Csolnoky Ferenc Hospital of Veszprém County, HGA Biomed Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Ltd., and Richter Gedeon Plc.

In his ceremonial address, Dr. András Fittler, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, reflected on his own early years as a young pharmacist, recalling his determination to meet expectations and perform every task flawlessly. He noted, however, that years of professional experience had taught him that perfection is ultimately unattainable.

"Striving for one hundred percent all the time can lead to frustration and burnout. Never forget that we are valuable and human because of our imperfections, and it is by learning from our shortcomings that we become truly excellent. We are never completely finished; what matters is that we remain attentive, recognize opportunities for growth, and invest time and energy every day to become better. It is much like compound interest in a bank—the return on our investment comes years later. I wish you to see not anger in your challenges, but the opportunities they offer."

On behalf of the newly graduated pharmacists, Dr. László Schreiner, Dr. Mostafa Mohamed Farag Attia Elsebaey, and Gábor Pinterics expressed their gratitude to their professors and families.
